A303: Rider rushed to hospital with 'serious and potentially life-threatening injuries' after van crash

Motorists are being warned of road chaos this morning following a "serious collision" which has caused long delays already.

The A303 in Hampshire is closed in both directions between the A34 (Lower Bullington) and the A30 (M3 J7) due to an accident.

National Highways confirmed that its traffic officers are on the scene and are supporting the emergency services.

The transport organisation confirmed that processes are being introduced for traffic caught within the closures that are being released.

It added that the police had launched an investigation into the serious collision. GB News has contacted the emergency services for a comment.

Traffic maps show that the accident is not expected to clear until between 2.30pm and 2.45pm, with normal conditions returning at a similar time.

However, this could change in the coming hours as the police assess the scene and determine that closures are required for a longer period of time.

National Highways stated: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

Drivers are facing long delays on the A303

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service received initial calls just before 8am, prompting them to respond to an accident between a motorcyclist and a van on the A303 eastbound at Micheldever, Winchester.

They added: "We sent two ambulances, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance critical care car and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance helicopter to the incident.

"The rider, a male in his 50s, had sustained multiple serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

"Following treatment at the scene, he was then taken by road to the major trauma unit at University Hospital Southampton, with the air ambulance team from the TVAA helicopter travelling with the patient to hospital."
