Asda, M&S, Sainsbury's and B&Q recall popular homeware items due to injury, shock and burn risk

Several of Britain's largest retailers have issued urgent safety warnings after a wave of product recalls affecting household items sold to millions of customers.

Asda, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's and B&Q have all pulled products from their shelves due to concerns over fire hazards and other safety risks.

The affected items span a range of home goods, from soft furnishings and decorative candles to ceramic drinkware and electric blankets.

Shoppers who have purchased any of the recalled products are being advised to stop using them immediately and return them to stores for full refunds.

The recalls highlight potential dangers, including non-compliant fire retardant materials, overheating electrical components, and items that may unexpectedly break or ignite during normal use.

Asda

Asda has recalled George Home seat pads and cushions after discovering that some products may contain filling that fails to meet fire and furnishing regulations.

The seat pads, available in various colours and designs, were sold between 2020 and 2025, while the cushions were on sale from January 2023 to December 2025.

Asda stated: "We have found that in some cases this product does not comply with the fire and furnishing regulations, as the product filling may not be FR (fire retardant) compliant. We have taken the decision to recall the product."

The supermarket has confirmed that customers can return affected items to any store for a complete refund without needing their receipt.

Those requiring further assistance can contact Asda Customer Relations on 0330 053 0111.

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer faces two separate recalls affecting its homeware range.

The retailer's Neon Candles, which include festive and celebratory designs, have been pulled due to a flaring hazard.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) stated: "The candles present a risk of fire as they may flare up while burning. If left unattended, the flare could ignite nearby objects and potentially cause a fire to spread throughout the room."

Additionally, Kelly Hoppen Debossed Cappuccino Cups sold by M&S have been recalled after concerns emerged about the ceramic base cracking unexpectedly.

The OPSS warned: "The product presents a risk of injuries and burns as it may crack or break unexpectedly during use."

Customers should return both products to any M&S store for a full refund or contact customer services on 0333 014 8555.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's has recalled its Habitat Mango Wood Taper Holders in both large and small sizes after identifying a potential fire hazard.

The retailer said: "Sainsbury's is recalling the above products due to the potential for the holder to catch fire."

The supermarket added: "We take the quality and safety of our products extremely seriously and would like to apologise to customers affected for any inconvenience this may cause."

Customers can return the candle holders to their local store for a full refund or contact the careline on 0800 028 8303.

B&Q

B&Q has also withdrawn its GoodHome Saturnia Electric Blanket, sold between November 2024 and December 2025, after an electrical component was found to pose overheating risks.

The OPSS stated: "The product presents a risk of fire and electric shock as it has been identified that an electric component can overheat."

Shoppers should "stop using the blanket immediately" and return it to their nearest B&Q store.

Product alerts such as recalls and withdrawals should always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

Consumers can find these alerts on the OPSS' official website or on individual supermarkets' websites.
